Jessie Diggins has had a tough start to the Trondheim World Championships. Now, it has been confirmed that she will miss today’s 10km race, where she is also the reigning World Champion.

Diggins is absent from the start list for today’s 10km race, where she holds the title of reigning World Champion. Additionally, despite having more available spots, the U.S. team will only have two starters—Rosie Brennan and Alayna Sonnesyn.

Diggins struggled at the start of the championships. She was eliminated in the sprint quarterfinals and finished 13th in the skiathlon, where the U.S. team faced waxing issues.

Recently, she has also been dealing with a foot injury, which is particularly noticeable in classic skiing.

Classic Style Challenges

Today’s race is in classic technique. Jessie Diggins won the 10km distance at the World Championships in Planica two years ago and is the reigning World Champion in the event.

The U.S. team has been clear that her absence is not due to the injury but rather a strategic decision to save energy for the rest of the championships.

“Jessie is saving herself for the rest of the World Championships. She is not missing today’s race because of her foot,” said U.S. press officer Leann Bentley in a statement to Aftonbladet.

Despite her struggles at the championships, Diggins remains the dominant overall leader in the World Cup after a strong start to the season.
