Italy’s national cross-country skiing program is fanning out across Alto Adige this week, with the senior team, Under-23 group, and junior athletes each based in a different town as the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) ramps up toward the Summer Cross Country 2026 event on September 5-6.

Running from August 24 through September 4, the setup puts the A-team in Dobbiaco/Toblach, the Under-23 group in Anterselva/Antholz, and the junior and AIN squads in San Candido/Innichen — the same two venues, Anterselva/Antholz’s Südtirol Arena and Dobbiaco/Toblach’s Nordic Arena, that will host the Summer Cross Country weekend that follows.

For the senior squad, the camp doubles as a transition point: the group arrives in Dobbiaco/Toblach fresh off Toppidrettsveka in Norway. Coordinator Michel Rainer leads the team, supported by coaches Markus Cramer, Francois Ronc Cella, Claudio Consagra, Andrea Restano, and Francesca Baudin, working with a squad that includes Iris De Martin Pinter, Federica Cassol, Caterina Ganz, Nadine Laurent, Nicole Monsorno, Virginia Cena, Elia Barp, Davide Graz, Martino Carollo, Simone Daprà, Gabriele Matli, Simone Mocellini, and Davide Ghio.

According to Italian outlet Fondo Italia, one notable return is Maria Gismondi, who is back with the group this week after a lengthy recovery and physiotherapy process following an illness that sidelined her for much of last season.

The Under-23 group, meanwhile, works through the same window in Anterselva/Antholz under coaches Matteo Betta, Stefano Corradini, and Tommaso Arrighi, with a roster built around Marco Pinzani, Federico Pozzi, Aksel Artusi, Beatrice Laurent, Marit Folie, Davide Negroni and Daniel Pedranzini.

Italy’s youngest national-team athletes, the junior and AIN squads, round out the buildup in San Candido/Innichen, the largest of the three groups by numbers, led by coaches Andrea Gola, Fabio Pasini, Corrado Vanini, Valerio Sorteni, and Renato Pasini.

With all three camps wrapping on the same date, FISI appears to be timing its buildup so athletes across age groups arrive at the Summer Cross Country venues with recent, area-specific training already banked.
