Frida Karlsson named honorary citizen of Val di Fiemme
Swedish ski star Frida Karlsson has been appointed honorary citizen of Val di Fiemme.
The double Olympic gold medals in Milano-Cortina and the overall victory in the Tour de Ski a few seasons ago have left a lasting impression in Val di Fiemme. Now, Frida Karlsson has been named an honorary citizen of the Italian ski resort.
“Wow, what an honor,” exclaimed Karlsson when she was surprised by representatives from the Italian ski resort during Tuesday’s press conference with the Swedish Ski Federation.
You had no idea you were receiving this award?
“I knew they were coming to present an award, but I didn’t know what it was for. It was truly an exciting surprise.”
“You represent exactly what we need”
The Italian representatives were highly impressed by what Frida Karlsson has achieved in Val di Fiemme and Milano-Cortina in recent years.
“You represent exactly what we need to reach out to Swedish tourists, with your top-quality from the heart,” they said, adding:
“In a few years, we hope you will become a full-time ambassador for us.”
Spent much time in Northern Italy
Frida Karlsson shared that she has spent many weeks in northern Italy leading up to both the Tour de Ski and the Olympics in Milano-Cortina.
“This is truly a very special place for me. I was in the valley for twelve weeks before the Olympic Games and also for several weeks before I won the Tour de Ski.”
