Gestblom will follow biathlon “from the TV couch” this winter
Swedish biathlon star Linn Gestblom is pregnant and will miss the entire upcoming season. She broke the news just over a month before the season opener.
“This winter, I will be following biathlon from the TV couch,” Linn Gestblom wrote on social media on Saturday morning.
That’s because the 32-year-old from Torsby is pregnant. The Swedish biathlon star married Christian Gestblom in 2024, and now they are expecting their first child.
“If all goes as it should, we will become parents in March.”
Gestblom has competed in three Olympics for Sweden and won silver at the Olympics in Milano/Cortina. She already had gold from the 2022 Olympics and silver from the 2018 Olympics, all in the relay.
Baby boom
Gestblom is not the only biathlete who will be absent in the upcoming season.
This summer, Gestblom’s national team teammate Hanna Öberg announced that she and her partner Martin Ponsiluoma will become parents for the first time this winter.
A few weeks later, Anamarija Lampič broke the news that she, too, is pregnant. The 31-year-old Slovenian made headlines when she gave up a brilliant cross-country career and switched to biathlon in 2022, only months before the home World Championships in Planica in 2023.
One of the Norwegian biathlon profiles will also be missing this season.
