This fall, a film about Johannes Høsflot Klæbo is coming to Norwegian cinemas, with the six-time World Champion starring as himself.

Just one week before the season opener in Beitostølen, the premiere of the film about Johannes Høsflot Klæbo will take place. The 28-year-old from Byåsen, Norway, made history in capital letters when he swept the board at the 2025 World Championships on home snow in Trondheim. Now, the cross-country ski star wants to let people get closer.

In the documentary, he reveals what went on behind the scenes during Klæbo’s most challenging season ever, from September 2024 to his six gold medals at the World Championships in Trondheim in March 2025.

The documentary offers a deep, honest, and unique insight into everything he sacrifices, and everything his family gives, to help him reach the top.

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo: “A truly honest story”

The film, currently titled “Klæbo”, follows the ski star throughout the build-up to his major goal: the 2025 World Championships on home soil in Trondheim. It is directed by Stian Engh and Klæbo’s younger brother, Ola Høsflot Klæbo. And the main character himself is glad that the documentary was, in part, created “within the family.”

“The great thing about brothers is that you get the unfiltered truth. I didn’t want a sugarcoated story. And with Ola and Stian directing, I’m confident this will be a truly honest story that covers much more than just celebrations and national anthems. Usually, all the focus is on me, but I think this documentary will make it clear that my family is the real star,” says the ski star.

“It may look effortless”

The film team has followed the cross-country star closely since September 2024. Blended with never-before-seen footage from the family, the documentary gives a unique look at the highs and lows. When illness and injury threaten the 2025 season and media pressure surges to over 400 news mentions a day, mental strength, relationships, and dreams are put to the test.

“Most people know Johannes’ successes, but we wanted to show the person behind the medals,” says Ola Høsflot Klæbo in a press release.

He co-directs the documentary with Stian Engh.

“When Johannes breaks away on the climbs or carries the Norwegian flag across the finish line, it may look so effortless. But everything that looks easy in the end is hard beforehand. Our film is about all the setbacks one must overcome and the strength one finds in their family and team to deliver incredible performances on the ski track,” says Johannes’ younger brother.

A local production

The film is produced by Klæbo Media and the Norwegian Oscar winners at Antipode Films, who won the industry’s top award earlier this year for their work on the documentary No Other Land. The soundtrack is also produced by Ola Høsflot Klæbo, in collaboration with musicians from the Trøndelag region.
