Thor Hushovd opens the door: Klæbo could switch to cycling

During a live broadcast, Thor Hushovd revealed that it’s not at all unthinkable that Johannes Høsflot Klæbo could join the Uno-X team next season.

During the third stage of the 2025 Tour de France, from Valenciennes to Dunkerque, the team manager of the Norwegian pro cycling team, Thor Hushovd, was interviewed by the Italian radio station RAI.

Hushovd did not rule out that Klæbo might join the Uno-X team next season.

“I can’t confirm that it will happen, but everyone knows Klæbo is one of the best athletes we have in Norway. He has incredible endurance and is also mentally an exceptional athlete,” he told the station.

“He has everything it takes”

Hushovd elaborated:

“He (Klæbo) is very close to our team. Yesterday I went on a bike ride with him, and he’s definitely competitive. You can never predict what will happen in the future, but right now the Winter Olympics in Italy are his focus, where he aims to win more medals.”

When asked how likely he thinks it is that Klæbo joins the team next year, the former pro cyclist was bold:

“I can’t give a percentage. Right now, the Olympics are his focus, and we’ll see after that. But we’ve seen athletes switch sports before. So, let’s say it’s 50/50.”

Just speculation to stir interest in Uno-X?

Is this merely speculation to get people talking and increase attention around the Uno-X team? Many stars have switched sports, but if Klæbo were to make the move just before turning 30, it would be extraordinary.

A key resource for Klæbo

For Klæbo, the cycling team is not only his main sponsor, but at 28, he also values access to the team’s expertise and has participated in training camps with them.

“We have a lot in common, including a shared focus on innovation and development, both in physical training, nutrition, and mental training,” said Johannes Høsflot Klæbo when he entered into the partnership with the Norwegian energy company.

“It could be knowledge about altitude training, mental development, preparation, and much more. But it’s also exciting to be part of a professional environment outside of skiing.”
