Swedish star Frida Karlsson hasn’t put on skis since winning gold in the 50km race at the World Championships in Trondheim. Despite competing in pain throughout the event, the 25-year-old from Sollefteå delivered one of the most memorable victories of her career.

Frida Karlsson’s season was marked by both highs and lows. Back in October, she suffered an overuse injury to her left foot, which later affected her groin area. The injury forced her to skip the season opener in Bruksvallarna, but she came back strong with a dominant victory in the 10km classic race in Ruka.

Heading into the World Championships, she had only raced five times in the World Cup. Nevertheless, she secured her first-ever World Championship title in the women’s 50km.

Still Dealing With Injury

Shortly after her gold medal triumph, Frida Karlsson announced that she would end her season early to focus on recovery. At the recent “Skidsnack” gala hosted by Expressen, she revealed that she is still struggling with the injury.

“I was in quite a lot of pain during the World Championships. In fact, I haven’t been on skis since,” Karlsson told Expressen.

“It’s honestly starting to get on my nerves. I’ve spent a lot of hours on the bike.”

No Surgery Planned, Step-By-Step Rehab

Despite the lingering pain, Karlsson and her medical team have opted against surgery.

“We’ve decided not to go ahead with surgery. The plan is to make the rehab as effective as possible,” she explained.

There’s currently no set date for her return to skiing, but Karlsson emphasized that patience is key.

“It’s still off-season now, so we’re not going to rush anything. We’ll take it step by step and let the rehab process run its course.”

Even though she was injured during the championships, Karlsson chose to complete the entire event—something she has no regrets about.

“It was absolutely worth it. I’ll carry this World Championships gold with me forever,” she concluded.
