For the third consecutive year, Norway’s Olympic and World Championship stars are no match for the Swedish prodigy in the prestigious sprint in Trysil.

Alvar Myhlback wins both the qualifying heats and the final at the Trysil Sprint – seemingly without breaking a sweat. The Swedish sensation claims his third consecutive victory in this prestigious showcase event, finishing ahead of eleven Norwegian Olympic and World Championship stars.

Myhlback views his victory in Trysil as a sign that he is on track following the first part of his season preparation.  

“I think it shows that I am at a good level. After all, some of the best in the world are here,” Myhlback said contentedly to Langrenn.com after his win. 

“It’s a cool race, and I have lived in Trysil for five years, so it’s a place I really like. I have done well here before, and it feels great to defend that title again this year,” he added. 

Outperforming the World Cup winner

This winter’s breakout star, Lars Heggen, finishes third in the final. The 21-year-old from Harestua IL, who won the U23 World Cup overall in his first year as a senior, was also defeated by Myhlback in the qualifying heats. He does not hide his disappointment about his performance. 

“It’s not good enough. I couldn’t catch him (Myhlback),” Heggen said after the final.

Hedegart left struggling

After his Olympic success in cross-country skiing, Einar Hedegart was now back as a biathlete – eager for a rematch with the cross-country elite, and the Trysil Sprint was his first opportunity. 

However, he faced a tough debut in classic sprinting. After finishing third in the qualifying heats, he needed to win the B-final to advance to the A-final. Unfortunately, he broke his pole on the first lap, leaving him with no chance and ultimately finishing in 11th place. 

Among the juniors, Vera Myhlback claimed her second consecutive victory in the Trysil Sprint, while Mattis Hansen from Eidsvold Verk SK won the boys’ category.
