Alvar Myhlback With High Hopes For The Ski Classics Events In Scandinavia

Alvar Myhlback has taken Ski Classics by storm. Last Friday, the 16-year-old won the sprint ahead of the Jizerská50, but the race on Sunday was not what Myhlback was waiting for, despite nothing wrong with his form. Now, two Pro Tour events await him in Orsa Grönklitt this weekend.

Last Friday, it was announced that Alvar Myhlback, Lager 157 Ski Team, will be allowed to start Vasaloppet this season. The long-distance race between Sälen and Mora in Sweden has an age limit of 19 years.

“I was very happy when I discovered that I could start Vasaloppet. I’m really looking forward to that competition, and it probably gave me a little extra strength in Friday’s sprint,” says Alvar Myhlback during the Grönklitt pre-event interviews earlier this week.

But the training plan remains the same even though he knows he will be able to ski the 90km long race.

“I won’t change anything. I will do some longer sessions but will try to get in as good shape as I can for Vasaloppet.”

Myhlback has a solid season behind him and has been close to breaking into the top 10. Last weekend he had a not-so-ideal Jizerská50.

“Jizerská was not what I dreamed for. We were a bit unlucky, and I don’t think it was about the shape,” says Myhlback and continues:

“The skis weren’t top on Sunday. Before Jizerská, we had great skis all season,” he points out.

On Sunday, there will be an Individual Time Trial, a race Alvar has high hopes for:

“I am looking forward to the race on Sunday. I believe and hope I will be strong and should be at the top,” says Myhlback confidently.

At the same time, the 16-year-old is humble about every race he started and admits that he is surprised that all went well.

“The level is high and the competition tough; the difference between place 10 and 20 is minimal. I make small mistakes in almost every race, and there are details I can always improve.”

Alvar believes he had a very good feeling in Marcialonga when he finished in 17th place. Even at La Venosta Criterium, his best result on paper, he is happy with his performance.

“Venosta was my best result even though there was a lot of mess in that race. With that in mind, it’s a result I’m very happy with. But I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can have a race where everything goes my way, and I can really make a top result,” concludes Alvar Myhlback.
