Truls Gisselman shares his best roller ski training tips for summer
He was part of the team that secured a bronze medal at the World Championships in Trondheim. Now, Truls Gisselman shares his tips for roller ski training this summer.
Truls Gisselman was part of the relay team that won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Trondheim. Now he and his Swedish national team teammates have started training for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.
Roller skiing is an essential part of training during the dryland season and is the method most skiers use for training during the summer months.
“Personally, I do both long sessions and intervals on roller skis,” Truls tells Langd.se.

Scout your route beforehand
There are several training apps nowadays, and Truls recommends using them to scout routes before your roller ski workouts.
“One tip is to check ahead a bit on Strava or Google Maps to plan a pre-determined route. If you want to go 50 kilometers, then you can sit down and look at maps in advance and find a good loop,” he says.
“It’s also a good way to see new places, for example, if you’re somewhere you haven’t spent much time before.”

Recommend roller ski tracks
When the 23-year-old does his interval sessions, he usually chooses a roller ski track.
“If I’m doing intervals, this is a session I do quite often. In the summer, it’s usually three times 20 minutes. And I often do it on a roller ski track. These are pretty long intervals, but of course, you can shorten them. In general, roller ski tracks are great because you don’t have to worry about traffic and such.”
If you could choose one roller ski session to do for the rest of your career, what would it be?
“It would probably be a long classic session in the sun, wearing shorts and no shirt. Roller skiing at its best. And of course, with good asphalt,” he says in conclusion.
