The first three events of Visma Ski Classics Season XI have successfully taken place. Even though the world is still troubled by the ongoing Covid-19 situation, the Pro Tour’s remaining events’ forecast looks promising.
However, for some smaller Pro Team athletes, it is not always easy to participate in all races this season. Then athletes may need other challenges. Read about what Thomas Freimuth, xc-ski.de AIN Skimarathon Team, came up with.

Many Pro Team athletes can travel from event to event to perform their job as professional skiers. Still, some athletes from smaller Pro Teams struggle with quarantine restrictions and cannot participate in each event as they have a full-time job in their home countries.

One of them is Thomas Freimuth, Pro Team athlete of the German xc-ski.de AIN Skimarathon Team.

“During the lockdown, it hurts not to get together and share a common passion. I still want to use the time for a special adventure on cross-country skis,” explains Freimuth.

Therefore, he started the project Bayerwaldloipe, for which he skied 145 km with a height difference of 2.500 m non-stop in mostly double-poling technique through the Bavarian forest. After 11 hours and 40 minutes, Freimuth reached the end of the Bayerwaldloipe and fulfilled a dream.
