Marcialonga Ski Classics Race

On Sunday, January 26, 2025, the Ski Classics Pro Tour continues with Marcialonga. Covering a challenging 70-kilometer course, the event marks the sixth Ski Classics stage and the first Grand Classics event, Season XVI, with more than 7000 skiers worldwide.

The traditional Italian long-distance skiing race, Marcialonga, has been awarded the “Best Event of the Year” in Ski Classics three times, and the 2025 edition will mark Season XVI’s sixth event, the first Grand Classics race, and their 52nd edition.

At the forefront of Marcialonga’s appeal lies its distinctive atmosphere and a course that winds through historical villages, leaving an unforgettable mark on skiers. Being the first of the four Grand Classics, Marcialonga is one of the major monuments and the most prestigious event to win. After this weekend, we will know who is still in the contest to win a Grand Slam.

Marcialonga Ski CLassics Race

Marcialonga – The top contenders on the men’s side

Kasper Staadas: Staadas, focused on long-distance races, proved his skill by winning the 3 Zinnen Ski-Marathon. Alongside his Team Ragde Charge teammates, he’s frequently on the podium. Motivated to deliver top performances, Kasper sets his sights on the big upcoming races. “My main goal is to win Marcialonga and Vasaloppet. I’m hoping for a good day on Sunday,” he shared.

Johan Hoel: One of the superstars of Team Ragde Charge, Johan Hoel, was in 3rd place last year in this race. Johan is in great shape for Marcialonga and has been training during this week. Last season’s champion bib winner has already secured some podium places this season, and he seems to be fit to fight for Marcialonga’s victory this year.

Andreas Nygaard: A veteran with multiple Ski Classics victories, Nygaard’s experience is unmatched. Though he’s conquered Birkebeinerrennet, Vasaloppet, and Jizerská50, Marcialonga still eludes him. Could this be his year for the Team Ragde Charge’s athlete? He humbly says, “I hope I can still win races.” His skill in challenging courses makes him a top contender.

Marcialonga – The top contenders on the women’s side

Emilie Fleten: One of the stars of Team Ramudden, Emilie is starting a great new Ski Season. After winning last year’s Marcialonga, she is in great shape and admits: “I feel pretty good for Marcialonga.” She is number 2 in the Ski Classics Champion competition, leading the Climb standings. Emilie says, “It will be cool, as always, to race at Marcialonga.” So, we can only expect her to be in top positions at Marcialonga this weekend.

Anikken Gjerde Alnaes: Team Engcon’s Anikken, currently ranked number one in the Champion and Sprint competitions, is off to a strong start this season despite recovering from an accident. Her best result at Marcialonga was 2nd place, and with her experience on this course, she’s in great form. We’re hopeful to see her back on the podium this weekend at Marcialonga.

Silje Øyre Slind: Representing Team Aker Daehlie, Silje won last weekend’s Engadin La Diagonela. In the press conference, she said: “I was determined to try to stay in the front group, I had good skis, a good plan for the race…I was really happy to win.”

A steady and consistent skier, she has started this Ski Season impressively. Still rising in the long-distance ski world, her best result at Marcialonga so far is 4th place. Currently ranked third overall and second in both climb and sprint categories, we can’t wait to see her take on the challenge of the stunning Marcialonga.

The Unpredictable Nature of Long-Distance Skiing

As always, long-distance ski marathons hold an element of unpredictability. The Marcialonga Ski Classics Race is much more than a competition; it’s a celebration of endurance, passion, and tradition that brings together skiers from across the globe. From its picturesque route through the valleys of Trentino to the electrifying camaraderie among participants and spectators alike, Marcialonga embodies the spirit of cross-country skiing at its finest. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete seeking to conquer its challenging trails or a passionate enthusiast drawn by the event’s rich history, Marcialonga offers an unforgettable experience. As the echoes of cheering crowds fade and the snow settles, one thing is certain: this iconic race leaves a lasting mark on all who take part, reminding us of the power of perseverance and the joy of shared adventure.
