Last week, Jenny Larsson set a World Record on the SkiErg double poling machine. Here, the Team Ragde Charge athlete talks about the return to Ski Classics, last year’s season, and the main goal for the upcoming winter.

Last winter, Jenny Larsson made a comeback after a persisting hand injury. An injury that kept her out for a year and a half, but Larsson kicked off her competitive return with a series of solid results.

She stepped on the podium at the second event weekend of Season XIV (in Ski Classics), finishing in second place at the La Venosta Criterium. A month later, she also finished on the podium at Marcialonga.

In between, she had also made her World Cup debut at Davos, Switzerland, the day after the Ski Classics Pro Tour event La Venosta.

Apart from a solid start to the season, the end of the winter was not what she was expecting. Larsson finished seventh at Vasaloppet, and in the competitions after that, she struggled with form:

“The evaluation that I made was simply that I slowed down, and this was because I could not build the base that I had needed for a long and tough season. But I look back with pride on what I did. After all, I only started roller skiing in August. I was exhausted from all the competitions and couldn’t get the training I needed between the events, especially before Vasaloppet and the period after. Then it’s quite obvious that there will be a small loss of form,” says Larsson to Langd.se.

What lessons have you learned for the upcoming season?

“It’s clear that I’m starting at a completely different level now than I was a year ago. Although I’ve had a little shaky confidence since the end of last season, I feel confident that I’ve stayed healthy and injury-free this pre-season. And I think the answers I got during the Alliansloppet weekend were good, even though I, like everyone else, was tired. But I felt that the body responded as I hoped for. It was also largely because of this that I chose to ski aggressively early in the long race. It was probably the most tactless thing I could do, but I wanted to try it,” says Larsson, who was at a training camp with Team Ragde Charge last week.

At the training camp, Jenny set a new World Record on double poling in a SkiErg.

The next roller ski competition awaits her in a few weeks: the Ski Classics Challengers event Klarälvsloppet. But for the upcoming winter, the main goal is already set:

“It is to win Vasaloppet. But I also aim to be a regular on the podium. And then I want to feel a victory again (so far, the only win was at La Diagonela in 2021, just before the injury problems). Then, I’m very much looking forward to being able to race strong with my teammate Anikken Gjerde Alnes. I think that together we will be able to add color to the races,” concludes Jenny Larsson.
