She had big goals. She wanted to qualify for the World Championships in Trondheim and had her sights set on more triumphs in Ski Classics. But her body said no, and none of that came to fruition. Instead, she will be an expert commentator on SC Play for the Grönklitt Weekend.

It shocked the Ski Classics community when Magni Smedås suddenly had to send a message announcing that she wouldn’t compete for a while.

At the start of the season, the Pro Team athlete had already noticed something wasn’t right. Her body didn’t respond as usual, her heart rate was high, and the results didn’t come. There was no choice but to pull the emergency brake. A high-altitude training camp in Central Europe with Team Eksjöhus didn’t improve her condition.

But this weekend, Magni Smedås will appear in a new role – as an expert commentator for SC Play’s English broadcasts of the two Ski Classics events in Orsa-Grönklitt, Sweden: The Grönklitt Criterium 61 and the Grönklitt ITT.

Smedås certainly knows what it feels like to be in the lead in these races. Regardless, it will be exciting to follow on SC Play!

Last season, the skier from Nord-Østerdal also won a medal in the 30km race at the Norwegian Championships in Lillehammer, and she had hoped to follow her former teammate and fellow townswoman Therese Johaug to the World Championships in Trondheim.

Magni Smedås has overcome setbacks before, and hopefully, we’ll see her back on the course again soon.
