Therese Johaug’s Book Has Been Released
Therese Johaug’s much-discussed autobiography, “Therese Johaug – The Whole Story,” gives a good insight into the life and career of one of the biggest stars in cross-country skiing history.
Johaug opens up about the doping case, the way back to the World Cup, and her relationship with food, body, and weight. It turns out that Johaug has also struggled to maintain her weight, and for an extended period around 2011, was so skinny that the national team management threatened not to let her compete.
But Johaug, now the partner of former rower Nils Jacob Hoff, also talks about a long-term relationship with Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen’s younger brother Sten Anders. That relationship ended not long before Sten Anders took his own life just before the Olympics in Sochi in 2014.
The book is an autobiography in which NRK’s journalist Anders Skjerdingstad is a co-author.
Colossal Career
During her 15-year career at the World Cup level, Therese Johaug has won four Olympic golds, three of them during the Olympics in Beijing last winter and the first in the relay during the Olympics in Vancouver 2010.
Johaug won her first World Championships medal in 2007 when, as an 18-year-old, she came third in the 30km race during the championship in Sapporo. Since then, she has expanded her collection with a further 19 World Championships medals spread over six championships, including ten individual golds and four relay golds.
Johaug has started in 246 World Cup races since her debut in Otepää on January 27, 2007, and has won 82. Therese has also won the World Cup overall three times.
In March, Therese Johaug announced that she would retire as a top-class cross-country skier after the 2021/2022 season. Still, she took home two Norwegian national championships golds, a win at Janteloppet, Skarverennet, and a close second place at Birkebeinerrennet.
