Swedish star on dream purchase: “I’ve never been so nervous”
Spent hundreds of thousands of Euros on a dream home.
“It’s the worst thing I’ve ever done. I’ve never been so nervous in my entire life,” says the Swedish ski star Maja Dahlqvist during a press conference in Torsby ahead of the weekend.
Maja Dahlqvist and her partner Kevin Bolger have purchased a house in Sweden.
“In Falun, of course. By the water. So it was exactly what we were looking for,” she tells Expressen.
Now she is returning to her roots, where she grew up – and where the World Championships will be held in February 2027.
The couple had to shell out almost seven million Swedish kronor (about 630,000 Euros) to fulfill their housing dream.
“Worse than competing in an Olympic final”
Dahlqvist says that now she is “broke, but happy.” However, she shares that the process was downright terrifying, specifically the bidding round.
“It was terrible. Much worse than I could have imagined. It’s something I never want to experience again,” says the 32-year-old, continuing.
“It was worse than going to an Olympic final. I’ve never been so nervous in my entire life.”
But for the Swedish ski star, it was important to get exactly that house.
“The moment that house came up for sale, we both felt like, ‘Yes. This is what we want.’ And that’s how it turned out in the end,” says Dahlqvist.
Have gone back and forth
Dahlqvist and Bolger moved to Trondheim ahead of the 2025 World Championships to train and prepare optimally for the event.
Afterward, she wanted to return to Sweden and Falun, where she comes from.
However, earlier this summer, Dahlqvist mentioned that she and her partner Kevin Bolger might stay in Trondheim after all. That will not be the case. But the couple will remain in Trondheim throughout the winter.
“The plan is to move in next spring. It’s difficult to manage something like that during the season,” says Dahlqvist.
Could be her last season
When the couple moves next spring, Dahlqvist’s ski career may be over. She has hinted several times that she plans to retire after the home World Championships in Falun. Now she is not so sure.
“I still see it as likely that this could be my last season,” she tells Aftonbladet.
But at the same time, nothing is decided. The 32-year-old remains highly motivated.
“I’m super motivated to compete and eager to get started,” says Dahlqvist, continuing.
“I find it hard to think that this is the last summer I’m training and the last winter I’ll be competing. So I think you have to take it as it comes.”
If she feels ready to retire, it’s hard to imagine a better stage than this winter’s World Championships in Falun. When the World Championships were held in Falun in 2015, Maja Dahlqvist was on the sidelines.
“I was just too young to participate then, so I’m very happy to get another chance now.”
