The third stage of the cross-country skiing World Cup season 2023/2024 starts in Östersund, Sweden this weekend. The Swedish national team is now presented.

Östersund, Sweden, is the place for the third stage of this year’s cross-country skiing World Cup. The event starts on Saturday, December 9, with a sprint in classic technique, followed by a 10km interval start race in freestyle technique on Sunday, December 3.

In a press release, the Swedish Ski Association has named their cross-country ski team for the upcoming World Cup premiere in Östersund.

“We even now get to compete with more Swedish skiers than normal in the World Cup, which means we can give more people the change to compete and gather experience at the absolute highest level. Classic sprint is on the schedule and it will be very exciting to see juniors Elias Danielsson and Alvar Myhlback at the start, as well as Falun – Borlänge’s Moa Hansson and George Ersson,” says national team manager Anders Byström and adds:

“Jens Burman is back after a tough start to the season and, after a training period at home in Åsarna, has made himself ready for his season debut.”

The Swedish team has had challenges with several cases of illness in recent weeks. For example, Jonna Sundling is not in the selected squad for Östersund, as she still has symptons after a positive Covid test after the premiere weekend in Ruka. Johanna Hagström is also standing over this weekend’s World Cup.

“We will hopefully get back some of those who missed the competitions in Gällivare, but there is uncertainty around several of them and we will have to wait closer to the weekend before we know if they can compete as planned,” says Anders Byström.
