Svahn on slow road back after World Championships crash
Linn Svahn has barely trained since the accident that hit her the day before the World Championships sprint in Trondheim. It’s been over two months, and no one knows when the Swedish star can return to normal training.
The 25-year-old Swede was considered one of the top favorites for gold in the sprint in Trondheim. But the day before the competition, Linn Svahn fell on the rock-hard, icy conditions in Granåsen and sustained a severe concussion. Her entire championship was ruined.
For a long time, she had to stay in a dark room. And now, over two months after the nasty crash in Granåsen, it’s still unclear when she can return to normal training.
Aiming for the Olympics
But Linn Svahn has been selected as one of eight women on the Swedish A-national team for the 2025/2026 Olympic season. During the Swedish national team presentation on Monday afternoon, the women’s team coaches said that the 25-year-old from Östersund has slowly started training again.
“She has started with light training. She was confirmed to have a concussion, and it lingered for a while. It also made it difficult for her to start training, and she’s not yet at the stage of full training,” said head coach Stefan Thomsson during the national team’s digital press conference on Monday.

Few details
According to Langrenn.com, national team doctor Rickard Noberius cannot disclose details about Svahn’s health and progress due to confidentiality rules.
“It’s going in the right direction, but I can’t say more than that,” said Noberius during Monday’s digital press conference.
Weng broke down in tears
When Heidi Weng heard about Svahn’s accident, the Norwegian veteran burst into tears. She has been through a severe concussion that took her years to recover from.
“I started crying when I heard it,” said Weng.
The Norwegian national team veteran sustained a similar head injury when she fell on the ice the week before the Norwegian Championships in 2022. And only now, nearly three years later, is Weng truly back in competitive shape. The 33-year-old, therefore, has a heartfelt message for Svahn:
“She must be as careful as possible in the first few days. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, and I had been looking forward to seeing her on the start line,” said Weng at the first press conference after the accident became known.
