In a press release, the Ski Association of Slovenia has named 12 cross-country skiers for the 2022/2023 season and a new head coach.

Next season, the 12 cross-country skiers selected, five females and seven males, will be part of the National Team.

Roman Beznik, president of the cross-country skiing committee, comments about the changes and expectations for next season:

“We have quite a few changes this year, and I’m sure even for the better. After many years, we have a manager, Vesna Fabjan. In the short time we have been working together, I am happy with her work. She is very diligent. She has extensive cross-country skiing experience and communication between the competitors and the management. What makes me happiest is that Ola has joined us. I am optimistic about the season. I talked to all the competitors, and they are very optimistic. The energy is good, which is the most important thing. We work a lot on team spirit,” says Beznik in the press release.

The Norwegian Ola Vigen Hattestad is Slovenia’s National Team Head Coach.

“I have been working with the Norwegian team for two years now, and the situation was now such that I was not sure if I would continue. After a few weeks of deliberation, I decided to leave Norway. I had some breaks in the plan, but Roman invited me to participate during the Easter holidays. I took some time, but the desire to return to the Slovenian team was always present. I can’t wait to work with the athletes. The team has changed a bit, I already know some of them, but I expect good work. It is also true that our family would like to spend more time in Slovenia,” says Hattestad and continues:

“Having a World Championships on home soil is very important to us. We are a great team, and some are already established at the highest level. Some have yet to prove themselves, to improve. I am motivated by the fact that we will try to make a very strong team, help each other, and progress. If we succeed, I am sure that we will see very good results in Planica.”
