Norway Bans Russian and Belarus Athletes from the World Cup in Drammen and Oslo

by Ingeborg Scheve • 01.03.2022
The Norwegian Ski Association announced on Tuesday that no Russian or Belarus athletes will be allowed to enter the upcoming World Cup races in Drammen and Holmenkollen.

On Saturday, the Norwegian Ski Association stated that Russian and Belarus athletes are not welcome at the upcoming World Cup races in Drammen and Holmenkollen. Since then, the NSF has tried to convince the FIS to do the same.

“We had hoped that the FIS would come to the same conclusion on behalf on the entire sport. But we cannot wait any longer. The board of the NSF has decided to announce to the FIS that Russian and Belarus athletes will not be allowed to participate in competitions in Norway,” says Erik Røste, president of the Norwegian Ski Association.

The Russian national team are already in Norway, but will not be allowed to enter the World Cup races.

If the FIS determines not to ban the racers from Russia and Belarus, the organizers of the World Cup sprint in Drammen, Konnerud IL, has decided to cancel the World Cup event.
