That’s why Therese Johaug is still waiting to give a final answer about her comeback to the World Championships in Trondheim.

She’s training as if she’s going for a comeback. She has won everything she has competed in. She has ‘approval’ at home. She has a national team place waiting for her. And she promised to give a final answer in May/June. The calendar says July soon, and no answer has come. Now, Therese Johaug explains why.

“I’m in full training. No decision has been made. There have been a lot of projects lately that have taken up a lot of energy,” says the 35-year-old in the podcast ‘Løperådet.’”

During the Norwegian national cross-country team’s training camp, coach Sjur Ole Svarstad said he is optimistic.

In the podcast episode released last week, the cross-country skiing star opens up about why it’s taken so long and why she’s not yet ready to give a final answer.

“It goes up and down in everyday life whether I feel like it or not. Of course, it varies depending on whether you’ve slept well or not when you have a little girl in tow. But I haven’t decided yet,” says Johaug, according to Langrenn.com.

Earlier this spring, Johaug talked about how she trains: “Up to 20 hours a week and more. Systematically and purposefully.

Tempted by the World Championships

But Johaug is undoubtedly tempted by the World Championships on home soil, specifically the 50km race. The 35-year-old, who became a mother a year ago, also says that she misses competing.

So far, this spring’s competitions have given her good experiences and answers about how her form and capacity have barely changed in the two years since she retired: Therese Johaug ravaged the competition.

First, she crushed former rival Justyna Kowalczyk in the 17-kilometer Engadin Frauenlauf in Switzerland on the first weekend in March.

Then, she showed a solid performance at the 30km Norwegian Championships, crushing the competition and winning by almost three minutes.
