There will be no Olympics for Therese Johaug in 2026. Instead, the Norwegian star and her husband, Nils Jakob Hoff, are expecting their second child. Johaug confirmed the news on a social media channel.

She is due at the beginning of January. That means daughter Kristin will become a big sister for the first time. Kristin was born on Norway’s Constitution Day, May 17, in 2023. That same year, Therese Johaug and Nils Jakob Hoff tied the knot in a dream wedding in Røros on New Year’s Eve.

“Tough intervals and heavy breathing, but it feels so good!! We’re excited to grow our pack at the beginning of January,” says Therese Johaug on Instagram.

Johaug has always said that time with her family is the most important thing, and what she missed the most during her comeback for the World Championships in Trondheim. Many believed she would continue through to the Olympics after not winning gold at the Trondheim World Championships. But earlier this summer, she announced that she wanted to dedicate more time to her family.

She has also announced her return to NRK as an expert commentator, but now a second child is on the way in January, right in the middle of the ski season.

Comeback Sparked Speculation

Johaug returned to elite-level skiing last season, competing in events such as the World Cup stages and World Championships in Trondheim. Her performances quickly reignited rumors of a complete comeback aiming for the 2026 Winter Olympics, especially after she delivered dominant results.

In interviews and media appearances throughout the spring, Johaug was consistently asked about a possible return to top-level competition. She initially said she would reveal her plans in April but later postponed her announcement, citing the need for reflection and balance between sport and family life.

A Final Answer

In late May this year, a statement marked a definitive end to the Olympic comeback discussion. Johaug shifted her focus to supporting the Norwegian women’s team from the sidelines while continuing to balance her life with family priorities.

While she may not be chasing Olympic gold again, her presence in the world of skiing remains strong. Whether through media, mentorship, or appearances, Therese Johaug’s legacy and influence continue to shape Norwegian cross-country skiing.
