Cross-country ski stars reveal secret dream – it’s not just about skiing
In addition to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Val di Fiemme, the ski stars share one common goal for the upcoming winter. Now, they reveal a dream that’s about more than just skiing and results.
The two ski stars have been together since 2021 and have lived together almost as long – in a way.
For Maja Dahlqvist (31) and Kevin Bolger (32), a recurring problem has been a constant since they met nearly five years ago. She is Swedish, and he is American. That complicates their life as a couple.
It could have ruined the season
Two years ago, the issue became so serious that they feared it might ruin their entire season.
The problem was that Bolger spent much of the summer of 2023 in Falun. As a result, he had already used up the 90 days allowed under a standard tourist visa long before the World Cup started in November. Theoretically, he couldn’t re-enter Europe for the rest of the calendar year. It was resolved somehow, and Bolger was able to compete in the World Cup races for which he was selected.
Since spring 2024, the couple has lived in Trondheim, specifically to prepare for the 2025 World Championships. But now that the championship is over, they feel they’re done with the city.

Completely done with Trondheim
They are keeping the apartment they rent in Trondheim through the winter, but say they will spend very little time there.
“I usually say that I live out of a suitcase. But it will probably be more and more time in Sweden,” Dahlqvist told Langrenn.com during Toppidrettsveka in August.

A shared dream for 2026
The two ski stars now share a dream for 2026 – in addition to making the Olympic team: finding a place to live in Falun, Dahlqvist’s hometown and the host city of the 2027 World Championships.
“Yes, I want that. I’m looking and keeping an eye out, and it’s Falun that matters,” Dahlqvist confirmed to Aftonbladet.
Dahlqvist has made it clear that she is considering retiring after the home World Championships in Falun. But for now, the focus is on the 2026 Olympics.
