Maja Dahlqvist and her American boyfriend, Kevin Bolger, are currently in the United States for an altitude training camp. But when the plane returns to Sweden at the end of September, it will be without Bolger. The American has yet to be granted a Visa to travel to Europe.
The news came as a shock to the couple, and Dahlqvist despairs:
“We don’t understand anything. Last year, there was no problem at all,” she tells Expressen.
The 28-year-old, who won the sprint World Cup this year and last year, is asking for help.
“If anyone has contacts who are good at this type of Visa matter, please get in touch,” says Dahlqvist.
Season in jeopardy
The Visa rejection is also a sporting nightmare for Bolger. He lost his place in the US National Team this spring and is now pursuing a private career.
However, the US National Team has confirmed that he will be allowed to compete in the World Cup in November and December. The problem now is that he has spent much of the summer in Falun, Sweden, and has used the 90 days included in a regular tourist Visa. He will, therefore, not be able to enter Europe for the rest of the current calendar year. This means that Bolger will not be able to use the World Cup spot he has been granted.
Considering getting married
The couple are now leaving no stone unturned to find a solution. One option is to get married.
“Yes, that’s actually an option,” says Dahlqvist, but even that won’t solve the problem in the short term.
“It’s obviously not that simple either. We’ve gone through it.”
