Home soil, high hopes: Katherine Stewart-Jones set for Canmore World Cup
Against the backdrop of her beloved Canmore, Stewart-Jones aims to leave a lasting mark, fueled by the support of her family and the cheers of her hometown crowd.
With a commendable track record, the Canadian cross-country skier has participated in prestigious events, including the Winter Olympic Games and the World Championships. Her journey in the Winter Olympic Games began in 2022, where she demonstrated her prowess in five events, comprising three individuals and two team competitions. Moreover, Stewart-Jones boasts an impressive tally of 18 starts in the World Championships, spanning across 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023, with 14 individual starts and four team events under her belt.
Stewart-Jones debuted in the FIS circuit on January 3, 2013, in Thunder Bay, Canada, where she secured a notable second place. Since then, she has accumulated a wealth of experience, with significant milestones including her first World Cup start in 2016 and an impressive total of 81 World Cup appearances.
Excitement abounds as Stewart-Jones is honored to represent Canada at the Canmore World Cup 2024, slated for the upcoming weekend. Hailing from Chelsea, Quebec, Stewart-Jones, along with fellow veteran Antoine Cyr from Gatineau, Quebec, is poised to lead the Canadian cross-country skiing team. Their stellar performances, marked by top-10 and top-20 finishes in recent World Cup events, position them as formidable contenders at the Canmore World Cup.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the upcoming event, Stewart-Jones remarked, “I am really excited to be racing on my home courses. My family is making the trip, so it will be cool to have them cheering and supporting me.” She added, “I am also looking forward to racing this venue at the World Cup level; it’s been a long time since my last World Cup here, and I am a very different athlete than I was eight years ago!”
Stewart-Jones, who is based in Canmore, Alberta, trains diligently with the Alpine Insurance Alberta World Cup Academy. After an extensive three-month stint on the road, the prospect of competing in a World Cup event on home soil is a rare and welcomed experience for her.
“My goal is to take advantage of the extra preparation I have here, embrace the energy of the hometown crowd, and have fun skiing as hard as I can,” Stewart-Jones affirmed in a statement to Nordiq Canada.
With the support of her family, teammates, and fans, Stewart-Jones is poised to make a significant impact on the slopes of her home courses, showcasing the culmination of years of hard work, resilience, and passion for cross-country skiing.
