The Brazilian Snow Sports Federation (CBDN) has named their cross-country ski team for the upcoming cross-country skiing World Championships in Trondheim, Norway.

“The expectations for the World Championships are quite good, considering that all the athletes have prepared well and that we have a full team, both in the men’s and women’s categories,” says the CBDN coach Caio Freixeda and adds:

“This is a very important World Championships, considering the Olympic qualification goals. All the athletes have prepared accordingly, and we expect to secure a women’s quota spot and position ourselves well in the nations ranking to try to open up one more spot in each gender.”

Experienced cross-country skier Mirlene Picin is set to compete in her eighth World Championships, a milestone she never anticipated when she made her debut in 2009 in Liberec. As one of Brazil’s most accomplished athletes in the sport, she reflects on her journey and shares her expectations for Trondheim:

“Trondheim will mark my eighth participation in the Cross-Country Skiing World Championships. When I made my debut in 2009 in Liberec, I never imagined that I would go on to represent the national team in so many editions.

Coming from a small, snowless nation, my main goal is to perform well in the distance qualification race—even though classic is not my strongest technique—to earn a spot in the other events.

For the first time, we will also have a Brazilian women’s team competing in the relay event.”
