On the second day of the training camp, another skier had already left the Norwegian national team gathering in Fredrikstad.

On the second day of the training camp, another skier had already left the Norwegian national team gathering in Fredrikstad.

On Tuesday morning, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo returned from the Norwegian national team training camp in Fredrikstad. A few hours later, Even Northug also left.

The 28-year-old Even Northug was originally due to train with his teammates for the rest of the week, but in consultation with the national team doctor he has decided to go home.

“I’m coming down with a respiratory infection and have gone home to be on the safe side. It’s not a good idea to be at a gathering when you don’t feel 100 percent well,” Even Northug told TV2, and continued:

“It’s the first time since before Christmas that I’ve been ill, but it’s better to take a few days at home so that I can really get started with my summer training when I’m well again.”

Injury-plagued Klæbo

For Klæbo, it’s an injury that’s causing problems.

The meeting in Fredrikstad this week started on Monday. It’s the Norwegian national team’s second gathering this season, with the World Championships on home soil in Trondheim being the clear highlight.

The camp lasts until the weekend, and on Saturday, the national team athletes will participate in the IDYLL X Craft Run during the Idyll Festival. There will also be a children’s race, where the kids can run alongside the national team athletes.

For many skiers, the national team gathering in Fredrikstad started before the weekend, with extensive physical tests at Olympiatoppen in Oslo.
