Last season, Astrid Øyre Slind made a solid double effort with two traditional cross-country skiing World Championships medals and five Ski Classics Pro Tour victories.

Here are Øyre Slind’s plans for the end of this season and the following winter.

A year ago, the Norwegian star Astrid Øyre Slind was responsible for one of the most challenging warm-ups in Vasaloppet history. On Saturday, she skied the 30km race at the Planica World Championships (where she finished tenth) before jumping on a plane to Berga by, Sweden, to the start of Vasaloppet.

The skier started Vasaloppet on the offensive and was in the lead for a few kilometers, but she ran out of energy and crossed the finish line 90km later in fifth place.

Despite this, it was an excellent season for the now 36-year-old Norwegian. She won five races in the Ski Classics, and before the final 30km race in Planica, she managed to take bronze in the skiathlon and also won World Championships gold in the relay.

This winter, she has focused entirely on traditional cross-country skiing.

“I have had a solid season, but it has not been good enough. So, to summarize, it has been worse than last year,” says Slind to Langd.se.

The World Cup competition was fierce, but she has been fourth twice and among the top ten on nine occasions during season 2023/2024.

Have you already decided on your focus for the next winter season?

“I will decide after the end of the season. But as it looks now, the World Championships on home track (Trondheim) will be the goal,” says Astrid.

At the end of this winter season, the focus will be on the Ski Classics:

“Now it will be all in for the last weekends on Ski Classics,” says Øyre Slind, who won Reistadløpet and Summit 2 Senja last year.
