Tour de Ski: All About the Final Climb – Alpe Cermis

The brutal signature stage of the Tour de Ski has been a part of the stage race since the very first Tour de Ski edition, back in 2007. 

The final stage of the 2022 Tour de Ski is a little more than eight kilometers. The course starts out on the World Cup stadium in Val di Fiemme. After a lap on the World Cup trails, the course joins the Marcialonga trail for about five kilometers down the valley before making a hard left. The final 2.5 kilometers of the stage, the course climbs more than 400 meters.

In 12 of the last 15 editions of Tour de Ski, the leader at the start of the Alpe Cermis stage has proceeded to win the overall Tour de Ski stage race. For the women, this has been the case for in nine of the 15 previous editions of Tour de Ski.

Prior to the final stage in the 2022 Tour de Ski, Norway’s Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and Natalia Nepryaeva of Russia are leading the overall Tour de Ski. Klæbo has a 2-minute gap down to Alexander Bolshunov of Russia in second place overall. Nepryaeva leads the women’s overall by 1:12 to Ebba Andersson of Sweden.

  • Tour de Ski 2021/22 started in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, on December 28 and concluded in Val di Fiemme, Italy, on January 4. 
  • The race consisted of six stages in eight days. 
  • Tour de Ski 2021/22 is the 16th edition of the brutal stage race. These are the winners from the previous 15 Tour de Ski events
  • The overall winners get 400 World Cup points for the Tour de Ski, which consists of six stages in eight days. Stage winners get 50 World Cup points. Accordingly, there are potentially 700 World Cup points for winning every stage of the Tour de Ski, which would determine the overall World Cup for the season.
