Totenrullen, a roller ski race in Norway, was planned for June 17 and is now canceled for 2023.

Totenrullen, a Ski Classics Challengers event, is regarded as one of the most beautiful roller ski races and is highly sought after by Pro Teams and World Cup athletes. The 60-kilometer Totenrullen competition is part of a multi-day roller ski event called Toten Skifestival, but for 2023 had to be canceled.

Totenrullen AS informs the situation as follows in a press release on their Facebook page:

“No Toten Ski Festival in 2023

On behalf of the board of Totenrullen AS, we would like to inform you that, unfortunately, we will not be conducting the Toten Skifestival/Totenrullen in 2023.

The event has grown gradually since 2018 and has eventually become so big that a different level of both economy and organization is required than what is currently available.

Toten Ski Festival, which in recent years has had national TV coverage and several of the world’s best athletes on the starting line, has been driven solely as a volunteer project between local teams and a working board, with financial grants from commercial partners and some contributions through inter-municipal project funds. It is a model that has worked during a start-up period but which the board does not see as sustainable to lift the event further.

The ski festival’s ambition and size, combined with tougher economic times and the wear and tear of a large group of volunteers, have made us not find it justifiable to hold an event in 2023.

Our ambition is that the Toten Ski Festival will once again be held in 2024, and in this regard, we encourage both volunteers and potential financial partners to contact us. Their commitment is a prerequisite for the Toten Ski Festival to be organized again in the future.”
