Team Engcon Pro Team athlete who has been part of the squad since Season XV has now chosen to say goodbye. “Hard to take off in a headwind.”

Team Engcon’s skier, Eddie Edström, has decided to end his career as an elite skier.

The 29-year-old, who has competed for Team Engcon and IFK Mora SK, announced on Instagram that Vasaloppet was his last race in Ski Classics.

“Unfortunately, it’s a weekend where I’ll be following the team from the couch, and therefore, Vasaloppet was my last race in Ski Classics,” he writes.

Edström joined Team Engcon in the 2022/2023 season after a year with Lager 157 Ski Team in the 2021/2022 season. He won this year’s edition of the Åsarna Ski Marathon and achieved his best Pro Tour result with a seventh place in Tartu Marathon during his debut season.

“Eddie the Eagle had a hard time taking off in a headwind – and so did I. It’s been a rollercoaster, but above all, I’ve had a hell of a lot of fun these past years,” Edström says on Instagram.

Still in the picture

Team Engcon’s Pro Team Director, Jørgen Ulvang, stated that there’s still a plan for Eddie within long-distance skiing in the future.

“Eddie has decided to stop, but we hope to have him on the team in some other capacity in the future,” Ulvang said.
