Ida Dahl Ahead Of The Intense Weekend: “Right Now All The Focus Is On La Venosta”

Ida Dahl, Team Engcon, made a good impression at last weekend’s double win at the Ski Classics in Bad Gastein. This weekend she starts the third event of Season XIV, La Venosta Criterium, and debuts in the World Cup.

Ida Dahl, Team Engcon, made a good impression at last weekend’s double win at the Ski Classics in Bad Gastein. This weekend she starts the third event of Season XIV, La Venosta Criterium, and debuts in the World Cup.

“Right now, all the focus is on Saturday’s La Venosta,” says Team Engcon’s Ida Dahl.

Ida Dahl has started the winter season with great performances. She was fourth and fifth in the distance races in Bruksvallarna and won the Swedish long-distance premiere in Edsåsdalen. Last weekend, when the Ski Classics Season XIV kicked off in Bad Gastein, Austria, she was the strongest woman and the only skier to leave Austria with double victories.

At last Sunday’s Bad Gastein Criterium, she was on the offensive all the way:

“There was no plan for us to be in the lead, then we had talked about helping each other, and it was very grateful that Linn (Sömskar) was at the front. Then I didn’t have a plan to go for the sprints; it just happened that way, but I felt alert, and after the sprints, it felt like the other girls were worn out, so I understood that if I ski hard in the tough climb, there should be gaps,” said Dahl, who got a gap from Astrid Øyre Slind and decided the race with 100 meters to go.

After Sunday’s victory at Bad Gastein Criterium, Team Engcon’s Ida Dahl has won five Ski Classics Pro Tour events, which also means that she became a new Legend, and her name is now carved in the Ski Classics Hall of Fame.

Tomorrow, it’s time for La Venosta Criterium, a 36km long-distance race at high altitude (almost 2.000 meters above sea level).

20 Kilometer In Freestyle Technique At The World Cup In Davos

This coming weekend is special because Dahl was named to start the 20km freestyle race at the World Cup in Davos on Sunday.

“My focus now is solely on Saturday’s race in the Ski Classics. I am looking for victory, but it will be tough; the other girls are strong. Then when I finish La Venosta on Saturday, I can start focusing on Sunday’s race.”

And what is the goal of the competition in Davos?

“I have no particular goals. I will go there and have fun.”

Did you manage any skate sessions during the week to prepare for the race in Davos?

“I skied part of Wednesday’s session, but apart from that there has been no session. Skating is not something I specifically train for,” says Dahl, who, however, showed that she held a high level of skating when she finished fourth in the skate race in Bruksvallarna (in what was her third skate session of the season). That should mean that Sunday’s World Cup debut will be at least the fifth skate session of the season for Ida Dahl.
