First Ski Classics Pro Tour Podium: “Tough Courses Like This Suit Me Well”
“I felt very good, and I know that tough tracks like this suit me very well. I just decided to go as hard as possible from start to finish today,” says Herman Paus to SC Play after the finish of Summit 2 Senja, his first Ski Classics podium.
“I’ve had a bit of a tough time in the previous races in Scandinavia. It was excellent today.”
After being in the lead from the start, it became challenging to keep Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget, Team Eksjöhus, and Johan Hoel, Team Ragde Charge, at the front, but together with Karstein Johaug, Team Ragde Charge, the two got a good gap over the chasers behind.
After a good downhill, the Team Ramudden Pro Tour athlete took the last podium place at the season’s last event, right in front of Johaug.
“It was a fantastic course. The hills were really long and tough, and the downhills were fast and technical. By then, my legs were completely done, so I had to fight to stay on my feet there. With 200 meters to go, I thought it was the finish line. But I wanted the podium, so I managed to find some extra strength.”
Paus was fifth at Marcialonga and Prato Piazza Mountain Challenge and has proven that he has been strong on the uphills throughout the season. He used that strength this weekend at the last chance this season, and the first podium finally arrived.
What will you do now, and will we see you at the start again next year in Ski Classics?
“Of course. Now I’m taking another long break before I start training again. It’s been a long and tough season, but I’m already looking forward to the next one,” says Herman Paus, Team Ramudden.
