Behind the scenes with Debertolis: Summer training and Ski Classics development in Italy
In the world of professional skiing, summer is often a crucial period for athletes and Pro Teams as they prepare for the upcoming season. ProXCskiing talked with Team Robinson Trentino’s Pro Team Director, who highlighted his team’s summer preparations, athletes’ progress, and Ski Classics in Italy.
Bruno Debertolis, Team Robinson Trentino Pro Team Director, shared insights about the team’s summer training regimen.
“Summer has been a bit strange; we did two main training camps, both in Trentino Passo Rolle, July and September, but never with the full team. For different personal needs, some athletes worked out in their homeplace.”
The team’s condition was challenging for Debertolis, but he is confident in the team’s ability to keep performing well.
“Training is going in the best way for everyone except for Patrick (Fossum Kristoffersen), who got mononucleosis in June and stopped for over two months. Luckily, he restarted at the beginning of September, and step by step, I’m confident he will come back stronger than before.”
The Italian Pro Team had also been involved in various competitions, with standout performances by some of the younger athletes.
Bruno Debertolis provided insights into their team’s transfer market strategy and the addition of Gustav Eriksson, expressing confidence in this reinforcement.
“We planned to reinforce the team, and we did it with Gustav (Eriksson), a former Swedish National, but for the rest, we decided to promote two young Italians with a strong motivation to improve and fight with the ‘big names.’”

Regarding Gustav, Bruno explained that they still needed to meet in person due to their focus on preparation.
“We decided with Gustav to focus everything on the last part of the preparation before the opening in Bad Gastein. We will spend ten days in Livigno just before, and I will finally meet him in person.”
Despite that, the initial impressions through virtual interactions were highly positive, highlighting his strength and wealth of experience.
One year ago, ProXCskiing published that Team Robinson Trentino would be the first Pro Team to add American athletes to its squad. One year later, Bruno shares his experience with American athletes on the team, particularly Rosie.
“I have known Rosie through Petter (Eliassen) at the end of season 21/22. She is a very strong athlete, a true professional, and above all, she is a great person.”
Bruno states that Rosie became an integral part of the team and is set to continue her journey with them.
Now that winter is approaching, it is time to transition to the fall training program. Bruno reveals that the athletes will be starting in local roller ski races in their respective countries and spending time in Livigno as part of their preparations.
Finally, at the end of our talk, we touched upon the growth of Ski Classics, especially in Italy. Bruno Debertolis expressed his enthusiasm:
“It’s great! I believed in the potential of Ski Classics from the beginning, and knowing that it has grown season after season makes me proud,” says the Italian Pro Team Director and concluded:
“More and more young people are starting to see this circuit as an opportunity, not just an alternative, which gives me hope for the future.”
