New shock for Svahn: Now the sprint star is battling yet another injury
She was in the shape of her life when the fall in Granåsen crushed her World Championship dreams. Now, nine months before the Olympics, Linn Svahn reveals that she has been hit by a new injury.
The day before Linn Svahn was set to chase gold in the sprint at the World Championships in Trondheim, the Swedish sprint star fell on the rock-hard, icy conditions in Granåsen. The 25-year-old hit the back of her head and suffered a serious concussion. The entire championship was lost. She returned home to Östersund for peace and rest with her family. It also marked the end of her season.
When the Swedish Ski Association presented the national teams for the 2026 Olympic season, the coaches were sparse with details about Svahn’s status. All they could say was that the 25-year-old from Östersund had just barely started resuming training.

Now, Svahn opens up about how she’s doing and where she stands, just nine months before the 2026 Olympics.
“I slept a lot and was isolated in my home. It was very strange. I went from being in the best shape of my life to just living day by day. It became a world of extremes,” Svahn told Expressen.
While the Swedish national team is at a training camp in Crete, organized by the Swedish Olympic Committee, Svahn is doing rehab exercises at the gym. But it’s not only because of the lingering effects of the concussion.

Reveals: New injury
The Swedish skiing star reveals that she is now struggling with a neck injury.
“We’ve got it under control and have examined it thoroughly. But it’s often a secondary injury when you suffer a major trauma to the head. It’s the last puzzle piece in the injury picture,” says Svahn.
She doesn’t seem particularly worried about this new injury issue.
“I wouldn’t say that I am. And it’s largely thanks to my previous injury experiences that I’ve learned how to handle such situations,” says Svahn.
She also shares that she spends a lot of time with Frida Karlsson, who is also dealing with a persistent injury.
“We train together in 80 percent of all sessions, and even in between, we don’t get tired of each other,” says Karlsson, laughing.
“We live in symbiosis,” says Svahn.

Injury-plagued
Despite being only 25 years old, Svahn has already suffered more serious injuries than many do in an entire career.
In the lead-up to the 2021 World Championships, she sustained a shoulder injury that sidelined her for nearly two years and cost her the entire 2022 Olympic season. She had just barely returned in time for the 2023 World Championships, and now she has missed the 2025 World Championships.
