The Finnish wax producer Start Skiwax Oy has restarted operations and will continue the production and development of the traditional Start brand after the bankruptcy that hit the company last year.

The company has acquired all rights, including production equipment, formulas, and other intellectual properties, to ensure the continuity and quality of Start products. Behind the company is a Finnish group with ten shareholders, combining new expertise with former employees who bring extensive experience and a strong belief in Finnish know-how and the future of cross-country skiing, according to a press release.

“We wanted to preserve Start’s valuable position as a well-known brand. We have assembled a team offering a wide range of skills and experience,” says Frese Gustafson, Chairman of the Board at Start Skiwax Oy in Finland.

Start has been part of the Finnish skiing tradition for decades – over 40 years. Production of Start ski waxes began in 1981, and the brand is well known among both recreational skiers and elite athletes. Start Skiwax Oy aims to ensure that the quality, innovation, and reliability of Start’s products remain intact.

“We want to bring Start’s ski waxes back to the top of the world by strengthening the brand’s position among elite athletes, national teams, and the ski community. We will make significant investments in product development and testing to ensure that Start’s products meet even the highest user expectations,” says Esko Sirparanta, Head of Production.

Production will continue in Finland, and the company also aims to develop new products as well as more environmentally friendly waxes to meet the needs of all skiers. In Sweden, Sportmarket in Hudiksvall remains the importer of Start, the same company that also distributes Fischer in the country.
