National team’s wax was destroyed in a fire
When the wax manufacturer’s production facility was destroyed by fire on Tuesday morning, the national team’s wax supply went up in smoke as well.
Around 9:00 CET on Tuesday, a fire broke out in one of the buildings at Red Creek, a wax manufacturer, at its main facility in Röbäck, outside Umeå, Sweden.
“We have a dedicated room for heating wax. My colleague was in the room when something happened. We use a heat gun with a very high capacity. Somehow, it overheated,” Red Creek founder K-G Lundqvist told SVT.
A large quantity of newly produced ski wax was destroyed in the fire, and it hit the Swedish national team hard.
“The Swedish national cross-country team was supposed to receive four cartons,” Lundqvist confirmed.
Supplies several national teams
Red Creek was founded in the 1990s and has since become an established player in ski preparation. The company supplies several national teams, including Norway, in both cross-country skiing and biathlon.
“We started by producing brushes and structure tools, but we have increasingly shifted toward manufacturing wax. This is a major setback,” Lundqvist said.
