Krista Pärmäkoski left her competitors trailing in her wake, securing a convincing win in the women’s competition. Meanwhile, continuing his remarkable winning streak, Iivo Niskanen dominated the men’s competition for an unprecedented sixth consecutive victory.

The action kicked off on Wednesday with the cross-country running, where a fierce battle unfolded between Iivo Niskanen and Remi Lindholm for the top spot in the men’s 4.5 km running event. Ultimately, Niskanen claimed victory, setting a new course record and establishing a commanding 30-second lead over Lindholm for the roller skiing race.

In the roller skiing race, Niskanen delivered an exceptional performance, securing an emphatic win with a remarkable lead of over a minute and a half. Meanwhile, a gripping duel for second place ensued between Remi Lindholm and Niko Husu, who started fifth in the cross-country event. In a nail-biting finish, Husu emerged victorious, snatching second place in a hard-fought battle.

Reflecting on his triumph, Niskanen commented for the Finnish Ski Association:

“The race unfolded quite evenly, and the gap to the trailing pack was significant, allowing me to ski at my own pace. I maintained a comfortable rhythm throughout, and my endurance held up well until the end. Overall, I’m highly satisfied with my performance.”

Krista Pärmäkoski delivered a dominant display in the women’s competition, leaving her rivals in the dust. She started the roller skiing race with a 39-second lead and extended her advantage to over two minutes ahead of Emmi Lämsä, who secured second place. Eveliina Piippo rounded out the podium with a commendable third-place finish.

“This race is truly demanding, especially now that the women ski after the men. It provided less recovery time after the cross-country running. The new track was exceptionally challenging, putting a strain on my strength. I had to employ tactical skiing to preserve my energy until the end. Despite the comfortable gap at the start, I remained determined to push until the finish line, even though it would have been tempting to ease up. I fought hard until the end,” Pärmäkoski explained in a press release.
