Frida Karlsson trained with the Swedish biathlon national team for a few sessions in Font Romeu. She also took the chance to fire a few shots at the shooting range.

Karlsson has skipped several of the Swedish national team’s training camps and is essentially following her own plan heading into the Winter Olympic season. A couple of weeks ago, she spoke out on social media about the pressure to perform and the increasingly data-driven approach to sports.

Guest session with the biathletes

This autumn, she has been at a high-altitude camp in Font Romeu, France, at the same time as the Swedish biathlon team was training there. That allowed her to join them for a few sessions.

“She uses our physiotherapists, and Ola Ravald (coach) helps her with technique, so there was already a connection. She didn’t stay with us, but she joined in on a few sessions, absolutely,” Jean-Marc Chabloz told SVT Sport.

Fired some shots

The traditional cross-country skiing star also tried firing a few shots at the range. And Chabloz saw some potential.

“She picked it up pretty quickly, no doubt.”

Even though the biathletes are not closing the door to Frida Karlsson, there is no talk of a “sport switch.”

“If she wants to, the door is always open. We’re very open to everything, so that’s no problem. But in this case, it was mostly for fun,” he concluded.
