French cross-country skier Lucas Chanavat has been forced to take an indefinite break from training after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his tibia.

The 30-year-old from France announced the news on social media on Thursday morning.

“BAD NEWS: Life doesn’t always go as planned… stress fracture in my tibia will keep me away from training for a while,” Chanavat wrote on his Instagram account.

The setback comes at a difficult time, as athletes are deep into preparations for the upcoming season that will lead into the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano–Cortina, Italy. Chanavat must now turn to alternative training while the injury heals.

One of France’s most successful sprinters, Chanavat has five World Cup victories to his name, all in the sprint discipline, and multiple podium finishes. At last winter’s World Championships in Trondheim, he had set his sights on a medal in the sprint but had to settle for sixth place.

Despite the disappointment, Chanavat remains among the key contenders in the sprint field internationally. With an Olympic season approaching, the French skier will be hoping for a full recovery and a strong comeback on the World Cup circuit.
