Solid performances in the USA at Shoreline Events 2024
The Shoreline Events, a roller ski race weekend, kicked off on Friday, July 12, in Wisconsin with the Shoreline Distance, a challenging 15km course in classic technique. On Saturday, July 13, the Shoreline Sprints wrapped up the two-day event with a freestyle sprint race along the lake in downtown Rice Lake.
Distance Race
In the elite women’s distance competition on Friday, the winner was Mariel Merlii Pulles, Team Birkie/USA, with Clara Hegan, NTDC/Canada, in second place and Gretta Scholz, Team Birkie/USA, in the third position.
In the elite men’s competition, USA’s Zak Ketterson, Team Birkie, took the title, with Julian Smith, NTDC Thunder Bay/Canada, in second place and Christopher Kalev, Team Birkie/Estonia, in the third position.
Sprint Race
On Saturday, it was time for the freestyle sprints. In the elite women’s race, Mariel Merlii Pulles, Team Birkie/USA, won ahead of Clara Hegan, NTDC/Canada. Lucinda Anderson, USA, finished in third place.

In the elite men’s competition, Zak Ketterson, Team Birkie/USA, won the sprint title, with Julian Smith, NTDC Thunder Bay/Canada, in second place and Benon Brattebo, USA, in the third position.

The roller ski event had a total prize money pool of $11,000, making it one of the biggest cash prizes for a cross-country skiing race or related events in the United States.
