Shoreline Distance and Sprint 2024 will captivate participants and audiences with two days of thrilling roller ski races next weekend in the USA. 

Taking place next Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13, the fourth edition of the Shoreline Distance & Sprint 2024 promises a spectacular showcase of talent with a solid lineup of participants. The field boasts almost 100 skiers, with a remarkable influx of Canadian and Estonian athletes, alongside a strong contingent of American competitors, with both the US Ski Team and Canadian National Team athletes.

Organized by Out There Nordic in collaboration with international brands and local partners, Shoreline Events has become a highly anticipated highlight on the North American sporting calendar every year.

The Events

Shoreline Events are the efforts of many, particularly the Rice Lake Main Street Association and the Out There Nordic.

Originating in the summer of 2021 with a skate sprint and hosting 16 athletes (6 women and 10 men) racing a 900m event, the race evolved into a two-day event in 2022. A 15km classic mass start race took place on Friday, followed by a 1.7km skate sprint on Saturday, hosting 44 athletes (17 women and 27 men).

The event schedule for 2023 was the same for technique, with a 15km mass start and a new 1.3km skate sprint course. Again, the overall field increased to 50 athletes (19 women and 31 men).

For the 2024 edition, the Local Organizing Committee will again have a 15km mass start in classic technique and a 1.3km skate sprint along the Shoreline in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. This year, the field has grown to 97 athletes (30 women and 67 men).

Distance

The action starts on Friday, July 12, with the 15km classic race for the elite women and men athletes. Races will begin at 8:30 local time. Junior men and women will also have events (4.5km).

Sprint

The following day, Saturday, July 13, the excitement continues with the sprint race in freestyle technique. The race covers a challenging 1.3km course along the captivating Rice Lake shoreline. Qualifying will begin at 2:30 pm local time, with quarter-final heats at 3:45 pm, semifinals at 5:05 pm, and finals at 5:40.

  • Semifinal heats: approx. 5:05 pm
  • Finals: approx. 5:40 pm

Furthermore, Shoreline Events is proud to announce a total prize money pool of $11,000, making it one of the biggest cash prizes for a cross-country skiing race or related events in the United States.
