Johannes Høsflot Klæbo of Norway dominated his signature event at the 2022 Olympics. Results from the men’s sprint final in Zhangjiakou.

Updates in progress

Norway’s Johannes Høsflot Klæbo made it clear that he was ready to revenge the disappointing 40th place in the 30-kilometer skiathlon at the 2022 Olympics on Sunday event.

Posting the third fastest qualifier time, Klæbo won his quarterfinal easily.

Then he was second in the unexpectedly competitive semifinal. Klæbo appeared to have an easy win, but ended up being beaten narrowly by Federico Pellegrino of Italy in a four-way photo finish that eliminated both Sergey Ustiugov of Russia and Lucas Chanavat of France, the fastest man in the qualifier.

But in the final, Klæbo risked nothing. The 25-year-old was cool as a cumber, controlling the heat from the start to the finish line.

When Klæbo picked up the pace at the top of the last hill, only Pellegrino was able to follow, securing Italy’s first cross-country medal at the 2022 Olympics. But nobody is faster than Klæbo, who won his second Olympic gold medal in the sprint.

Finale, sprint F men
1. Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, Norway, 2:58.0
2. Federico Pellegrino, Italy, +0.3
3. Alexander Terentev, Russian Olympic Committee, +1.3
4. Joni Mäki, Finland, +2.2
5. Artem Maltsev, Russian Olympic Committee, +3.6
6. Oskar Svensson, Sweden, +6.2

In the women’s sprint, Jonna Sundling of Sweden dominated from the qualifier through the final. She posted the fastest qualifying time by more than five seconds. She won her quarterfinal and semifinal comfortably. In the final, she simply parked her competitors when she surged on the final climb. And she made it look… so easy.
