Here you can see Jonna Sundling’s new gold skis, which she received from Rossignol this week. Together with biathlon star Franziska Preuss, the World Championships queen from Sweden was honored when they visited the factory in France.

“Thanks for the visit and the incredible skis,” Jonna wrote on Instagram. “Huge thank you to @rossignolnordic for this really amazing pair of skis and the stay in your HQ. They will get a special place at home,” Preuss announced.

The French ski manufacturer gathered some of its stars after the season, and they followed along with interest as they were shown the production facilities at the headquarters in Saint-Jean-de-Moirans. In addition to Jonna Sundling and Franziska Preuss, Dorothea Wierer, Loic Meillard, Mélanie Meillard, and Julia Scheib were also present.

First, the athletes were given a tour of the production facilities, where, among other things, Jonna got to try gluing skis.

“I was very slow, they are really fast here,” commented the Swedish World Champion.

The highlight of the visit, however, was the gift to Sundling and Preuss: personalized skis. They were made in the colors of their respective nations to congratulate them on their season’s successes. The skis feature a large globe, and medals and decorations not found on regular skis.

It has become increasingly common for ski manufacturers to produce special skis for their stars who win major titles. Earlier this spring, Norwegian biathlon World Champion Endre Strömsheim received a pair of gold skis from Madshus, and Fischer has for several years made special skis for its champions. This is very much appreciated by the athletes, and Jonna Sundling was clearly pleased to receive her new gold skis.

The athletes also got to view Martin Fourcade’s extensive trophy collection, which is displayed as an exhibit at Rossignol’s headquarters.
