Johaug skips altitude training
Two weeks ago, Therese Johaug confirmed what many had hoped: She is making a comeback, with the World Championships on home soil in Trondheim as her goal.

The Norwegian star also mentioned that she hadn’t finalized her entire preparation plan but that she wouldn’t participate in all of the national team’s camps. She hadn’t decided whether to include altitude training before the season starts. Now, it’s clear that the skiing queen will skip the altitude training.
“I haven’t been at altitude for two years now. There’s no altitude in Trondheim, and I stand by the fact that I would never have been the athlete I was if I hadn’t spent so much time at altitude and received that quality training. But now, I’m a bit unsure if those 14 days might cost too much for me when I have a little one at home and will be away for an extended period. Recovery is a bit different,” says Johaug.
Therefore, the women’s national team will attend the altitude camp without Johaug. The rest of the team traveled to Italy this Thursday and will stay there until September 6.
Johaug believes she has more than enough to focus on that can be done at home.
“For me, it’s now about rebuilding my oxygen capacity and the intense sessions I depend on to progress in my training towards the World Championships,” she says.
However, Johaug plans to attend the national team’s next camp, which starts at the end of September at Mosetertoppen in Hafjell. The Ski Federation’s press contact, Steinar Bjerkmann, confirmed this to Langrenn.com.
“The plan initially is Mosetertoppen,” he wrote in a text message.
The first race for Therese Johaug will be the national season opener at Beitostølen at the end of November. Competitors are welcoming the skiing queen back.
