Impressed the competition last winter: Now the super talent raises the bar even higher
She has barely turned 18, but the super talent athlete from Bækkelaget, Norway, has already earned respect among the world’s best, even at the senior level.
Not only did she win three gold and one silver medal at the Junior World Championships, but Milla Grosberghaugen Andreassen finished fourth in the 5km classic at the senior Norwegian National Championships part 2 in March and fifth and sixth in the sprint and 10km freestyle at the senior National Championships part 1 in January.
Winning three gold medals at the same championship, as she did at the 2023 Junior World Championships in Whistler, Canada, at the end of January and beginning of February, has left a big impression.
“It was really great, an incredible feeling. Everything worked out. So, of course, it has given me a lot of motivation for my future career,” she says.
Now that Grosberghaugen Andreassen has evaluated the winter and put last year’s season behind her, the 18-year-old sees she can also compete at the top level.
What are your goals and ambitions for the coming season?
“The Junior World Championships is my main goal this winter. Beyond that, I also aim to take top places in several senior races.”
A Solid Base
Everything indicates that Grosberghaugen Andreassen is on track for more of the same next winter.
In the important run-up to the season, the super-talented athlete from Bækkelaget, who is also part of the Norwegian Junior National Team, likes to keep training as simple as possible, preferably at home and in line with traditional Norwegian training philosophy.
Where do you prefer to train at this time of year?
“Near where I live in Bækkelaget, and elsewhere in the Oslo area, such as Holmenkollen, Lillomarka, and Østmarka,” says Grosberghaugen Andreassen to Langrenn.com.
And her favorite autumn session is as simple as it is traditional.
“The session I like best in the fall is probably moose hoof intervals with poles. It’s an intense and hard session where I really get to push my limits,” says the super-talented athlete.
