Swedish star Alvar Myhlback has made a tough decision.

After a victory and two podium finishes at Vasaloppet, two gold medals at the Junior World Championships, and numerous other medals and triumphs, it’s over. Alvar Myhlback is leaving Madshus. 

The Swedish star reveals that the decision was not made lightly. Primarily, it was about practical considerations regarding his Pro Team, Lager 157 Ski Team.

“My entire team uses Fischer, so it was a natural step to take in a way. At the same time, it was a very difficult decision to make,” Myhlback tells Langrenn.com, pausing for a moment. 

The Swedish skiing sensation took several weeks before signing with the Austrian ski giant.

“I have been on Madshus for as long as I can remember. Madshus holds a special place in my heart, but it has developed to the point where it makes the most sense for me to switch to Fischer now. So, I look forward to this collaboration and believe it can be great,” says Myhlback.

Team agreement

In long-distance skiing, the testing procedures around the athletes differ somewhat from traditional cross-country skiing. 

The waxing teams for long-distance teams typically test entire production batches instead of individual pairs of skis, and teams often prefer that all athletes use the same brand. Frequently, all athletes’ skis are part of a shared ski fleet for the team, and the rest of Lager 157 Ski Team has been using Fischer for several years. 

Until now, it has been Petter Myhlback, former national team wax technician for Sweden, who has been responsible for his son’s skis.

Important profile

The racing manager at Fischer in Norway, Jørgen Lippert, emphasizes that it means a lot for Fischer to have the outspoken Swede join their roster.

“It’s very exciting, and Alvar is an important signing for us,” says Lippert, continuing.

“He is an exciting athlete who skis fast. But Alvar is also a cool guy who dares to speak from the heart and likes to create a bit of a show around him.”

Lippert explains that long-distance skiing is becoming an increasingly important segment for Fischer. 

“Long-distance skiing is incredibly important. We see that double poling has gained more and more popularity among the general public. It is a trend and the fastest-growing segment in cross-country skiing in recent years. So, it is important to be visible there and have profiles,” he says.
