Gus Schumacher switches ski brands
He has been on the same ski brand since he received a t-shirt and a 50% discount on skis at age 14. Now, however, that chapter is closing.
The USA’s Olympic silver medalist, Gus Schumacher, is the next top athlete to announce a change in ski brand for the upcoming season.
Schumacher celebrated wildly when he and Ben Ogden secured Olympic silver in the team sprint in Val di Fiemme last winter. He capped off the season by winning the American championships in mass start and taking bronze in the sprint.
Now, he has surprisingly announced that he is leaving Rossignol, the brand he has been with since he started over ten years ago.
“Thank you so much to @rossignolnordic for over 10 years of great racing service! I wouldn’t be the athlete I am today without the fast skis and great people that have helped me my whole ski career. From @fatterskier giving me a t-shirt and 50% off when I was 14 to @babouclaudon and @antoine_hrch testing new stuff every weekend on the World Cup, I’ve felt a part of the Rossi family the whole way. I’m so grateful for all the belief and hard work that has helped form all the best moments of my career. Gonna miss you guys!” wrote Schumacher on a social media post, and added:
“Rossi is really making great skis and boots, and I’m sad to leave, but after a lot of testing and reflecting I’ve decided to move forward in a different direction for the next years of my career. Thanks again for everything and I’ll always root for you guys!”
Two French biathletes have also announced brand changes. Quentin Fillon Maillet is leaving Fischer for Rossignol. Justine Braisaz-Buchet is also leaving Fischer, but she has not revealed which brand she will be skiing on next season.
