With a little over one month to go until the start of the 2024/2025 World Cup season, the Canadian National Team was presented for the first period of races.

Ruka (Finland), Lillehammer (Norway), and Davos (Switzerland) are the places for the first period of the upcoming World Cup season.

In a press release, Nordiq Canada has named their cross-country skiers for the upcoming World Cup season period 1.

Canadian Cross-Country Ski Team – Nominations

Women

Sonjaa Schmidt – Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club, AWCA
Liliane Gagnon – Skibec, CNEPH
Katherine Stewart-Jones – Nakkertok Nordic, AWCA

Men

Max Hollmann – Big Thunder Nordic, AWCA
Antoine Cyr – Skinouk, CNEPH
Graham Ritchie (Declined) – Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre, NTDC Thunder Bay
Olivier Léveillé – Club de Ski de Fond Orford, CNEPH
Xavier McKeever – Foothills Nordic Ski Club, AWCA
Pierre Grall-Johnson, Nakkertok Nordic, NTDC T-Bay
Sasha Masson – Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club, CNEPH

Athlete nominations were made by the High Performance Committee (HPC) based on the 2024-25 Nordiq Canada Competition Selection Criteria. Final athlete selections were approved by Chris Jeffries, High Performance Director.

FIS World Cup Calendar Season 2024/2025

According to the International Ski & Snowboard Federation (FIS), the calendar will feature three stops before Christmas for Period I, including Ruka in Finland, Lillehammer in Norway, and Davos in Switzerland.

Period II will feature the Tour de Ski, which will begin in Toblach, Italy, with four events (sprint F, mass start C, interval start F, and pursuit C) and finish in Val di Fiemme, also in Italy, with another three events (sprint C, skiathlon, and the Final Climb) at the end of December 2024 and beginning of January 2025. 

In Period III, competitions will be held in Les Rousses, France; Engadin, Switzerland; Nove Mesto, Czech Republic Cogne, Italy; and Falun, Sweden, all before the World Championships. 

In Period IV, it’s time for the Trondheim World Championships, which will be held from February 25 to March 9, 2025. 

Finally, Period V, the final period of the World Cup season, includes venues in Oslo, Norway; Tallinn, Estonia; and Lahti, Finland.
