Stian Berg has decided to end his Pro Tour career after a long and successful time on the Ski Classics circuit. 

On Tuesday evening, Stian Berg, the two-time Ski Classics green Sprint bib winner, announced on Instagram his decision to put his skis on the shelf after many years of dedication, training, and success.

Stian Berg announcement on Instagram: 

“I came here, but not as a skier anymore. It is strange to announce that it is now over because this has meant everything and been my life!

It has been an absolutely fantastic journey. Ever since I started walking, the skis have been on. A fast-paced and playful childhood and youth laid the foundation for me to move away from home to Trysil as a 16-year-old to focus on skiing. I was never in doubt. I was going to be a skier.

Since then, I have always believed I would one day win ski races and become one of the world’s best skiers. Live and train accordingly. Did quite a lot of crazy things at times, just because you have faith. Believe in development and goal attainment. Through ups and downs. First as an all-rounder, then as a long-distance skier. I came a long way, actually won a few ski races, and did not become the world’s best skier, but still very proud of the journey and what I have achieved. It’s quite fascinating what joy and determination you find in something so small yet so big. It’s been fun!

But now I’ve realized that neither the body nor the mind is quite where I think it should be to continue where I want. And then it is a fair but sad decision to make by giving up.

Many people deserve a big thank you. Many thanks to all friends, family, partners, competitors, supporters, support staff, and people who, in their own way, have contributed to the development, support, and good experiences for me on the ski track! Thank you for the opportunities I have been given. I feel lucky to have experienced so much, with so many good people, through all that sports and games have to offer. It has been a real pleasure.

Earlier this year, Berg announced that he was leaving Team Kaffebryggeriet and hoped to join another Pro Team for Season XV.

Stian Berg has won the green Sprint bib overall two times (Seasons X and XII) and has an impressive palmarès since his first start in the Ski Classics circuit in 2015, with his 48 Pro Tour and 8 Challengers starts and best career result an 11th place at Birkebeinerrennet in 2019. 

He was top 20 in two Pro Tour events during Season XIV, with 13th place at Bad Gastein Criterium and 19th place at La Venosta Criterium. Berg finished Season XIV in the 39th position overall at the Champion competition.
